QME – DOL – CAC…the main topics of discussion this month.

Let’s start with the Career Advancement Conference.  If you have not registered, please do so today.  This is going to be a great meeting, and we have invited some national top level speakers.  If you are looking for sales ideas, motivation or inspiration then you must attend this meeting.  If you are looking for NAIFA business updates, we will cover that as well.  The cost is inclusive this year, so everyone can attend the awards recognition dinner.  If you are local, and want to come for ONE DAY, we have that available.  Please try to make this meeting, as we will be discussing and voting on items that impact each and every member of NAIFA-California.

DOL Fiduciary Rule: It is now decided.  It does go into effect June 9, so you will be seeing a lot of information on what to do from your companies and broker dealers, if you have not been already.  The “cheese has moved,” but those who are LILI graduates know that is OK--it is part of life, it is to be expected. Let’s support each other as we move into another new phase of our industry. We at NAIFA-California and at NAIFA-National will continue to work with Congress and the Department of Labor, to push for better clarity, wording, rulings and business process. We need to be flexible, but we still need to stand strong and not allow the regulators to just think we will accept anything they want to push on our clients or industry. PAC contributions are needed now to make sure we have the funds when needed to fight the fight. Be prepared to make your PAC contribution or increase your contribution at the Career Advancement Conference.

QME--The Quality Member Experience.  NAIFA-National has provided recommendations from the QME task force on a new organizational structure for locals, states and the national federation. There have been a series of conference calls nationally, several conference calls at the state level and more to come. The final version is not complete. Recommendations are being considered, and changes are being made as we continue to provide input. We need to hear your voice and thoughts. We want to make sure that any bylaws amendments we vote for at National encompass the ability for GROWTH, as well as contraction. We want to make sure that if locals want to continue to meet, they can and we have a process and plan on how that will look and work. This is NOT a recommendation to STOP LOCALS FROM MEETING, it is a recommendation to change the legal structure and legal requirements on what locals need to do going forward. If locals want to continue to meet, they will have that option, will retain revenues to do meetings and will have the ability to continue to provide local value-add to members. Please make sure you attend the lunch presentation at the Career Advancement Conference, be on the state conference leadership calls and attend the NAIFA Performance + Purpose Conference to be fully informed and cast your vote.

We are excited to see all of you in a few weeks at the Career Advancement Conference, and as my presidential year comes closer to a close, I want to say that I have enjoyed meeting many of you as I have traveled the state, and have been blessed in making new friendships, learning stronger leadership skills and serving NAIFA-California.
