As I write this, we are coming to the end of the current association year. While we have made some strides in the political involvement area, we still have quite a ways to go to be where we need to be. I want to thank all of those who worked hard on the PIC committee this year. First: our Governmental Relations Chair John Davidson. We are so very fortunate to have John heading up the GRC and PAC this year. He is multi-talented and extremely committed to the political process.

I also want to thank our regional coordinators, Sandy Henderson, Peter Fulchiron, Peter Kuo, Jaime Flores, Janise Graham, Linda Harris, and especially Terry Kaltenbach, who did whatever was asked of him. And of course, many thanks to our advocate in Sacramento, Shari McHugh. Please take a moment to call these people and thank them for their hard work.

We still have the California Secure Choice retirement that the legislature wants to put into effect, and we are all trying to figure out how the fiduciary standard is going to be implemented. One thing I am sure of is that it will once again increase the paperwork burden on each of us. I recently heard that the cost of complying with government regulations is now an astounding $1.3 trillion per year.

NAIFA has been on the forefront of these issues, and will continue to be involved. I would ask each of you to get involved in the political process. This is how you can make a difference in your future career. Thank you again for all of your hard work, especially to the NAIFA committee.
