December 2015-Membership Update

As the year starts to wind down, we all tend to take a look back on how the year went. We take an inventory on things we’ve excelled in and in areas in which we’d like to improve. And although our NAIFA year doesn’t end until June 30, we are doing the same thing in the area of membership.

As of the writing of this article, I am happy to report that we are experiencing growth in our NAIFA-California membership; something that hasn’t happened for quite some time. Many of these new members are due to our Pilot Program, giving a one year sponsored membership to those who are less than three years in the business and have not been previous NAIFA members.

Our locals have stepped up to the plate and have taken advantage of this program to bring in new members. For that, you should all be proud of yourselves. However, the work is not yet done; in fact, it is only now beginning. Now that we’ve ushered these new NAIFA members into our local chapters, it is now time to give them a reason to renew their membership next year. We need to show them what NAIFA does for them through our advocacy efforts—how we protect their business and their client’s financial well-being; we must show them sales ideas that they can take back to their office and transfer into new sales, and we must show them the benefits of brotherhood and sisterhood in this wonderful organization by taking them by the hand and making them feel welcome.

Yes, we have achieved much through this program, but much still remains to be achieved. With the fiduciary standard rules staring us in the face, as well as new legislation mandating state sponsored retirement plans, we have to be vigilant in our membership efforts. We have surpassed 3,000 members statewide, but with your help we can achieve even more success. Thank you for all your help in making this a banner year for NAIFA-California.
