In our industry, November and December can often mean a slowdown in our businesses. We tend to think clients aren’t taking as many appointments; people just don’t want to be bothered. NAIFA is not immune to this mindset.  I am happy to report that NAIFA-California has decided to not participate with any perceived “end-of-the-year slowdown.”  The strength and success of our industry are too important for your professional association to just cruise into next year. Here are a few things your association is working on as we wrap up the year and some specific areas where you can help end the year strong.

Sponsored Membership Program: The deadline for this program is December 31. Please contact every advisor you know and have them sign up as members of your professional association. If they are in the industry for less than three years, NAIFA will sponsor their first year’s dues. Your state association is currently doing a mail and telemarketing campaign to help grow our membership. Based on some of the rhetoric from legislators and regulators, we need EVERY member we can muster to ensure our lobbying voice is heard loud and clear.

Website CRM System Rollout: Your new state association website will help our members better utilize the value of NAIFA at the national, state and local levels. In addition to local association information and enhanced member profiles, our website will integrate fully with our client resource management system to help us better serve our members and help grow NAIFA membership through targeted marketing. You can help make this system a success by responding to member surveys regarding you and your practice so we can better tailor our state and local benefits to meet your needs.

Event Planning: We have several important events that are paramount to the success of NAIFA and our industry. We are diligently finalizing the details for your involvement. Right now, please open your calendar and block these dates off, as only broad participation will ensure these events are a success.

  • California Day on the Hill: February 24, Sacramento, CA—This all day event will include a legislative overview and a visit with legislators at the Capitol as well as a wrap up event with legislators and our lobbyist, Shari McHugh. Please take a moment to visit your local state legislators’ websites and identify opportunities to connect with them over the next few months so they will know you and your association when you visit them in February.
  • NAIFA-California Career Advancement Conference: May 12-13, Redondo Beach, CA—Can the incredible speakers and opportunities from last year’s event be topped? It’ll be tough, but based on the line up of speakers and vendors, this will surely be an event you won’t want to miss. This event isn’t just for association leaders but all agents in the state who want information that can immediately help them in their practice.
  • NAIFA National Congressional Conference: May 24-25, Washington--The Congressional Fly-In is incredibly important to help ensure our voices are heard on the Federal level on issues that matter to us. Last Year’s 800 attendees made an impact. We need you to be there as part of our lobbying efforts. With issues like the DOL fiduciary rule and legislators on the lookout for “revenue,” you can be sure that there will be issues important to you and your practice.
  • Nominations Committee: Do you want to get involved with your professional association at the state level? If so, we want to hear from you. State board interviews will occur in February around Day on the Hill but our nominations committee wants to hear from you NOW. Contact me today if you or someone you know has interest in getting involved. My years serving on the state board have been fun, fulfilling and have helped me in my practice in innumerable ways.

In addition to all of the above, we are also hosting another successful LILI class and I personally am looking forward to visiting many of our locals as they host their holiday and community events. Here’s to you, your success and all of us finishing the year strong.
